The sound of waterfalls is loud and clear, and the fern paradise nestled in the mountains and beside the water is a small yet exquisite National Forest Recreation Area in the upper reaches of the Nanshih River, perfect for enjoying serenity and greenery. About 50 minutes from Xindian, Neidong can be said to be the most convenient national forest recreation area in the Greater Taipei area, with an elevation of 230 to 1,500 meters, and is traversed by the Neidong Creek, making it a humid and warm place, truly a fern paradise. The short Waterfall Trail, just a few hundred meters long, allows you to discover nearly 65 species of ferns, including rare ones such as the pendant-like Alsophila and the climbing fern, which grow on tree trunks. This place used to be called "Doll Valley", reportedly because of the large number of frogs that inhabit the area and whose croaking echoes through the valley at night, and you may even catch a glimpse of them in the water ditches along the trail. The Neidong Waterfall is the main attraction of the recreation area, and at the end of the Waterfall Trail, it presents two different landscapes, offering visitors a diverse and refreshing experience, filled with the fragrance of negative ions. On a hot summer day, why not escape the sweltering city and come to the Neidong National Forest Recreation Area to enjoy a cool forest bath in the afternoon.
