Today, strolling through the misty and beautifully aligned cryptomeria forests, one can climb to the top of Dongyanshan, which is 1,212 meters above sea level, and take in the views from Taoyuan to Greater Taipei. Along the forest trail of Dongyanshan, there is a forestation commemorative stone that bears witness to the past of Taiwan's forestry industry. The rich ecosystem of Dongyanshan is home to around 43 species of mountain birds and numerous mammals, including the white-faced flying squirrel that can only be found at medium to high elevations. In the spring, one can enjoy cherry blossoms, while in the summer, one can hear the sounds of cicadas during the day and various frogs at night. In the autumn, the forest trail of Dongyanshan is filled with the atmosphere of autumn, and what's more, there are many wild rabbits living here, so be sure to watch your step while walking through the forest. The Fossil Area, located along the forest trail of Dongyanshan, features fossils and geological landscapes with a history of millions of years, accompanied by trace fossils and sedimentary geology, making for a pleasant stroll to the entrance of the Dongman Trail.
