Located about a 2-hour drive from Kaohsiung City, Pingtung City, and Tainan City, Tengzhi was once a living area for the Bunun people, and during the Japanese colonial period, Kyoto University established an experimental forest here, resulting in the rare presence of Japanese arborvitae and large areas of Japanese cedar plantations in Taiwan. The famous Liukou Patrol Route passes through this area, leaving many relics behind. The park's elevation ranges from 1,500 to 1,804 meters, making it a cool and pleasant place to visit. The "cloud forest" in this area is home to large trees such as Machilus, Persea, and Lithocarpus, as well as the Tengzhi begonia, which is named after this place, and many rare fern species, making it a very valuable place. The area also nurtures a rich ecosystem, with many rare insects, such as the Louisi's angle Rhinoceros beetle, the large green Saturniid moth, and the Taiwanese cicada. This is also one of the easiest places in Taiwan to spot the Yellow Tit, making it a unique and ideal place for hiking and birdwatching.
