Kenting National Forest Recreation Area was originally a marine garden where coral polyps, algae, foraminifera, and shells thrived, but due to the movement of the Earth's plates 500,000 years ago, it became a unique forest ecosystem - a high coral reef forest, with rich ecology, monsoon rainforests, and limestone terrain, providing visitors with a different Kenting leisure option. Located just 10 minutes from Kenting Main Street, it is Taiwan's second national forest recreation area, featuring well-developed high coral reef forests and monsoon rainforests, with trees such as large banyans, silver leaf trees with developed board roots, and white figs with numerous aerial roots. In 1906, the Japanese established the "Hengchun Tropical Botanical Garden" here, which has a history of over 100 years. The park is home to groups of Taiwanese macaques and red-bellied squirrels, and lucky visitors can catch a glimpse of Formosan deer and crab-eating mongooses. The most attractive feature is the migratory birds that visit in the fall and winter, such as the gray-faced buzzard in October, and even the rare yellow thrush, which can be spotted, while the forest floor is home to Taiwan's unique yellow-gray freshwater crabs and Banka snails. Another major feature of Kenting National Forest Recreation Area is its limestone terrain, where visitors can see geological treasures such as stalactites and stalagmites in caves like the Silver Dragon Cave and the Stone Bamboo Hole.
