Shuangliu National Forest Recreation Area. This is located in Shizi Township, Pingtung County, just under half an hour's drive from Fenggang. The name "Shuangliu" comes from the fact that it is the confluence of the Daren Creek and Neiwen Creek, upstream branches of the Fenggang Creek. In the past, it was a living area for the Paiwan tribe, and the remains of their characteristic architecture, the "turtle shell house", can be seen on the banyan tree trail. Due to the large-scale planting of tropical tree species such as Taiwan incense cedar and Formosan sweetgum by the Forestry Bureau in 1965, it is a great place to appreciate the beauty of broad-leaved artificial forests. The special ecosystem here includes the Hengchun Peninsula's representative plants, such as the Hengchun mountain papaya and the harbor malletane, which can be seen along the Hatshe Mountain trail. The forest is also home to birds such as the Taiwan blue magpie and the Taiwan thrush, as well as over 196 species of butterflies, and you might even be able to spot the protected species, the yellow swallowtail butterfly.
