Chihnan National Forest Recreation Area. If you like exploring history, then you absolutely cannot miss the Chunan National Forest Recreation Area: the old locomotive, the log collector, and the old photos in the forestry exhibition hall. If you're interested in exploring history, you absolutely can't miss the Chihnan National Forest Recreation Area: the old locomotive, log crane, old photos, and countless artifacts in the forestry museum are all preserved in this small park by the edge of Liyu Lake in Hualien, like a miniature version of the 1960s. Chihnan is one of the three legendary places in Hualien's forestry history: the starting point of the Hualien Forest Railway. From 1930, the Japanese planned and the Nationalist government expanded it, building a nearly 50-kilometer-long forestry railway empire, the most glorious in Hualien. Until the complete logging ban in 1989, the Hualien Work Station in the deep mountains was abolished, and it was cut off from the world, leaving only the Chihnan transfer station transformed into a forest recreation area, allowing people to reminisce about this period of forestry history. In addition to history, Chihnan's forest is mainly composed of trees from the soapberry and camphor families, mixed with trees like the wax tree, and the eastern Taiwan-specific bird, the Taiwan barbet, often appears among them, making it a great choice for people to get close to nature. Visiting the Chihnan National Forest Recreation Area allows you to understand the transformation and outlook of forestry management under different historical backgrounds, surrounded by the atmosphere of forest bathing and history.
