The Dounan National Forest Recreation Area is located in the mountainous area between the Central Mountain Range and the Hengchun Peninsula, with the Neiweng Creek running through it, and the diverse changes in terrain and water create a complex forest landscape and diverse species, including tropical rainforests, subtropical rainforests, tropical monsoon rainforests, and warm temperate forests. This area is also home to the Paiwan tribe, and the cultural relics of the indigenous people can still be seen within the area.
