Alishan Forest Railway. The Alishan Forest Railway was laid during the Japanese era for the exploitation of forest resources, with the entire line divided into main and branch lines, passing through tropical, subtropical, and temperate zones. The Alishan Forest Railway was built during the Japanese colonial era to exploit forest resources, with the entire line divided into main and branch lines, passing through three types of forest landscapes, including tropical, subtropical, and temperate zones, from Chiayi Station at an elevation of 30 meters to Alishan Station at an elevation of 2,216 meters. Additionally, passengers can take the Zhaoshan Line train in the early morning to Zhushan Station, the highest elevation station in Taiwan at 2,451 meters, to admire the renowned Alishan sunrise. The Alishan Forest Railway has four of the five major mountain railway construction methods to overcome the treacherous terrain, including spiral lines, zigzag lines, Ω type turns, and specially designed mountain steam locomotives, combining mountain, forest, and high-mountain railways, verifying its status as a world-class mountain railway and making it one of Taiwan's potential World Heritage sites.
