Huang Wei, courtesy name Mengwei, style name Yisou, also known as Yisuo, was a native of Wenshuitou (now Houshuitou), born in the first year of the Hongzhi reign of the Ming dynasty (1488), and had served as a clerk in the Quanzhou Prefecture. Huang Wei, also known as Meng Wei, with the courtesy name Yisou and alternative courtesy name Yisuo, was a native of Wenshuitou (now Houshuitou). Born in the first year of the Hongzhi era (1488) of the Ming dynasty, he served as a clerk in the Quanzhou Prefecture and became a jinshi in the ninth year of the Zhengde era (1514). Initially appointed as a main official in the Ministry of Justice in Nanjing, he was renowned for his fair, cautious, wise, and lenient approach to judicial cases. He was later promoted to the position of prefect of Nanxiong, where he reduced corvee labor, promoted Confucian teachings, banned female entertainers, and eliminated obscene temples. Due to recommendations from his superiors, he was reassigned as the prefect of Songjiang Prefecture, achieving numerous administrative accomplishments. However, because of his straightforward and unvarnished memorials, which did not curry favor with those in power, he returned to his hometown to care for his relatives and engage in academic pursuits.
