Due to its location in a depression at the summit of Mount Taiwu, it was formerly known as Taiwu Rock Temple. When viewed from afar, Mount Taiwu resembles a reclining hermit, and it is popularly described as a "reclining immortal," a place imbued with spiritual energy. Haiyin Temple, built upon it, is a place of fervent worship. Every year on the ninth day of the first lunar month, the "Birthday of the Jade Emperor," residents of Kinmen, young and old, ascend the mountain to worship at Haiyin Temple, which is also a significant religious festival in Kinmen.
