Beiyue Temple is located at the foot of Wuhu Mountain on the northeast corner of Kinmen, and is one of the long-standing centers of faith in the area. It is said to have been built during the Southern Song Dynasty and was originally a village temple protecting the people of the Shanxi area. During the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, Japanese pirates invaded the coast, affecting the homes of the people in Shanxi, and Beiyue Temple was also burned down. Although it was repaired many times afterwards, it was severely damaged by strong winds at the end of the Qing Dynasty.
