The museum's predecessor was the Yilan Branch of the Bank of Taiwan during the Japanese colonial era, and it was one of the first seven branches established by the bank. Having undergone damage from war and multiple restorations, the building itself fully showcases historical traces from different eras. The preserved retro exterior walls and the heavy vault door have now become spaces for displaying documents and artworks, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the old building while appreciating art.
