Zhaiming Temple Old Trail. Currently one of the 30 municipal historic sites in Taoyuan, Zhaiming Temple's adjacent old trail, built around 1923, was a necessary route for pilgrims to worship at the temple. The stone slabs for the path were sourced from the Dahan River and were chiseled and laid by workers hired by Mr. Jiang Lianzhi (Buddhist name Puhai), the fourth-generation grandson of Zhaiming Temple's founder, Mr. Li Ajia. As you tread the dense stone steps, imagine the pilgrims of the past crossing the river and kneeling their way to Zhaiming Temple, evoking a sense of cultural immersion. At the point where the Zhaiming Temple Old Trail connects to Taoyuan County Highway 64, a paifang stands silently, inscribed with the couplet: "Day and night, the sound of the stream seeks the shore of the Way; the traces of winding robes embrace the gate of the worthy." A century of time seems to pause here. The tranquil forest path, with ancient trees reaching for the sky and the babbling stream cooling the heart, offers a panoramic view. Although the "Returning Sails at Kanzu," one of the eight scenic spots of Daxi in the past, is no longer visible, a sense of nostalgia remains. Visiting this century-old trail offers a different perspective to revisit the splendor of Daxi, with the charm of exploring ancient sites.
