Yucheng Road Ancient Trail is one of the three major ancient trails in the Hexi area of Daxi (the other two are Zaiming Temple Ancient Trail and Panlongqi Ancient Trail). The term "Yucheng" suggests the presence of royalty. This ancient trail, built in 1788, was originally a path for local residents to trade between Hsinchu and Longtan. In 1923, due to the visit of the Crown Prince to Taiwan, local gentry raised funds to rebuild it into the stone-paved road seen today. At the entrance of the ancient trail behind the National Defense University's Zhongzhengling, a Yucheng Road Monument stands, listing the donors.
