He then built a thatched hut in his hometown to practice asceticism, beginning the temple's century-long history. Later, due to the flourishing of vegetarian Buddhist beliefs in Taiwan, Zhaiming Temple was supported by vegetarian Buddhist followers. In 1999, the sixth abbot, Jiang Zhangren, entrusted the Dharma affairs of Zhaiming Temple to Dharma Drum Mountain, with Master Sheng Yen appointed as the seventh abbot, marking its return to orthodox Buddhism.
