With over 200 years of history, Xiaoli Pond is not only Taoyuan's first pond but also the largest in the Bade area. During the Qianlong era, the Pingpu indigenous people named this place after their tribal name, 'Xiaoli She'. Together with Han Chinese settlers, they excavated Xiaoli Pond at the southernmost part of Bade, utilizing the terrain. This pond collected stream water and springs, becoming the water source for the Xiaoli Canal (the predecessor of the Shihmen Canal). The abundant irrigation resources fostered a prosperous scene of 'endless Xiaoli fields and inexhaustible Xiaoli rice'. Strolling along the lakeside path, while admiring the lush green rice paddies swaying in the wind, one can reflect on the hardships of the early settlers and feel a sense of gratitude.
