Furen Temple – known as the 'Great Temple' by locals, was built in the 18th year of Jiaqing (1813). At that time, Zhangzhou immigrants, to avoid the inconvenience of crossing the Dakekan River to Puding for worship during festivals, raised funds to build the temple through individuals like Li Bingsheng (father of Li Tengfang), Lü Fandiao, and Lin Benyuan. Today, Furen Temple is not only a major center for Zhangzhou beliefs in Daxi but also uniquely enshrines local deities from Hakka, Chaozhou, and Quanzhou communities. During the Japanese invasion of Taiwan, Furen Temple served as an Anmin Bureau, a local resistance point against the Japanese. During the Japanese colonial period, it was used as a garrison hospital.
