Jiu Long Temple. Winding along the mountain road, a vast expanse opens up before you. Perched high, Jiu Long Temple offers a panoramic view of the distant Wuzhi Mountain. The architecture is simple, with clean decorations that do not diminish its aesthetic appeal. Inside the temple, the main deity worshipped is the Jade Emperor. However, venturing beyond the front hall reveals a hidden surprise in the rear shrine: a statue of Chiang Kai-shek, a rare sight in Taiwanese temples. In earlier times, when societal customs were more conservative, the temple feared repercussions for deifying a former president and thus enshrined the Jade Emperor in the front to conceal their true intentions. As society has become more open, the practice has become widely known, making it one of Taiwan's most unique temples.
