Medicine Buddha Temple. The Medicine Buddha Temple primarily enshrines Namo the Eastern Medicine Buddha of Lapis Lazuli Light. In his past lives, while practicing the Bodhisattva path, Medicine Buddha made twelve great vows to relieve sentient beings of suffering from illness, avert calamities, prolong life, and bestow blessings. After Buddhism spread to East Asia, it became popular there, with the main scripture being the Sutra of the Past Vows of Medicine Master Lapis Lazuli Light Bodhisattva. The temple enshrines Namo the Eastern Medicine Buddha of Lapis Lazuli Light, flanked by Bodhisattvas of the Sun and Moon Illumination, along with the Three Jewels Buddhas, the Four Heavenly Kings as Dharma protectors, and the Sixty Manifestation Buddhas. It is one of the few temples in Taiwan that primarily enshrines Medicine Buddha. Every year on the birthday of Medicine Buddha of Lapis Lazuli Light (the 29th day of the ninth lunar month), devotees are invited to come and offer congratulations and praise.
