It was completed in the 7th year of Taisho (1918), with the enthronement ceremony held the following year. During the later period of Japanese rule, the temple was used for military purposes. After the restoration of Taiwan, worship resumed, and the temple was renovated again in the 56th year of the Republic of China. In recent years, it was damaged by an earthquake and received funding from the 921 Community Reconstruction and Renewal Fund approved by the Ministry of the Interior for repair work, which was completed in the 94th year. Hukou Sanyuan Temple is the spiritual center of the Old Hukou area. Adjacent to the temple is the famous Old Hukou Street, which is also one of the county's tourist attractions.
