During the Japanese colonial period, the Shangping Aiyong Supervisory Office was established here, making it a gateway to Wufeng and a transit point for transporting timber, camphor, and tea. It was also a place for Han Chinese and Atayal people to exchange daily necessities. This short, hundred-meter street was once a bustling commercial area with tobacco and alcohol shops, pork stalls, inns, and restaurants, bearing the economic burden of the entire region! Today, it remains an old streetscape of two-story shop-houses. The row of red brick and wooden ancient houses has only a few small local shops still in operation, far from its former prosperity. However, because it has not been overly commercialized, it possesses a tranquil and slow-paced atmosphere.
