Lidong Ancient Fort, at an altitude of 1,914 meters, is a battlefield relic from the anti-Japanese period, built with red bricks and cement. Time has weathered it down to a mottled gate, walls, and embrasures. Seeing the Baroque-style Mt. Lidong Ancient Fort signifies you've reached the summit! The fort was built in 1906 during the Japanese colonial era to attack the local Atayal people. However, the once fiery military base now only has ruins left. In 2003, the county government designated it a county-designated historic site under the name TAPUNG Ancient Fort, in the Atayal language.
