It was later renovated into the Long Ying-tsung Memorial Hall to commemorate the late writer Long Ying-tsung. The hall documents the writer's life, literary works, and literary career, and even recreates his study, making visitors feel as if they have stepped back in time. Long Ying-tsung was a most important novelist during the Japanese colonial era and a native of Beipu. He received his Japanese education at the Beipu Public School, which led him to encounter world literature. In 1937, his Japanese work "A Small Town Planted with Papaya Trees" was awarded an honorable mention in a writing contest by the Tokyo magazine "Kaizo," making him a writer who appeared on the Japanese literary scene after Yang Kui and Lu Her-ruo. In 1942, he represented Taiwan at the first "Greater East Asia Writers' Conference." In addition to writing about the struggles of intellectuals in the colonial period, Long Ying-tsung, from a local Hakka family, also depicted many local landscapes of Beipu in his works. In 2020, with the collaboration of various parties, the former dormitory of the Beipu Public School on Changxing Street was transformed into the Long Ying-tsung Memorial Hall. It not only inherits Long Ying-tsung's learning experience and cultivates profound literary literacy through local education, but also serves as a literary starting point for the children of Beipu.
