Zhan Zhi-liang Pottery Play," located in Hukou Old Street, is the creative and sales base for ceramic artist Zhan Zhi-liang. The space was formerly the Hukou Years Restaurant. The quiet daily life and the broad, simple characteristics of the old street greatly attracted him, so he moved from Taoyuan to quietly cultivate his craft. The front half of the studio is the exhibition and sales area, with his antique collections and ceramic creations displayed extensively on the windowsills and shelves. The workbench allows students to glaze and engrave here. The back half is equipped with five kilns, the largest of which is taller than an adult. The first step of the experience course is practicing the clay, kneading it like dough to make the texture uniform and the moisture and hardness just right. Next, it is placed on the potter's wheel to shape it into the desired form, and then handles and other accessories are added with clay. For decoration, you can attach clay shapes or engrave patterns and text to add personality. It's important to note that metal oxides in glazes will change color after firing. For example, iron oxide turns brown after firing, so you need to pay attention to whether it's the effect you want when glazing. Firing is the final step. Zhan Zhi-liang will assist in placing the colored clay into the kiln and firing it at a high temperature of 1,240°C. After completion, it will be mailed to you, and you can receive your finished piece in about two weeks!
