It is bordered by rolling hills to the north and the Fengshan River valley to the south. This east-west oriented town was once a newly opened paradise on the "Baliguo" plains. The Xinpu Pan Residence, also known as the Pan Ancestral Home, was built in Zhuchan Xinpu by Pan Shuxian, who moved to Taiwan from Wuliting, Ximenwai, Meixian, Jiaying Prefecture, Guangdong Province. He came to Taiwan in 1786 and initially lived in Nanshi, Zhongli, where he was taken as a son-in-law by Yang Xi. As Yang Shi had only one daughter, and both mother and daughter died young, their family property was pawned off by Yang's brother-in-law. Therefore, Pan Shuxian had to leave Nanshi and go to Xinpu to start a business with friends. After successfully establishing his enterprise, he returned to Nanshi with funds, redeemed the pawned family property of the Yang family, and repaired the public shrine. After Pan Shuxian prospered, in 1815, he purchased land on the north side of the Fengshan River slope valley and built a residence. The house was primarily constructed with rammed earth, forming the prototype of the Xinpu Pan Residence. In 1861, Pan Qinghan and Pan Chenghan, sons of Pan Fulai, Pan Shuxian's eldest son, extensively renovated the existing structure. In addition to rammed earth, they incorporated a large amount of red bricks and granite, materials with strong defensive functions, fully reflecting the social security and economic conditions of the time.
