Located in Nanpu Village, the Nanpu Irrigation Canal is the only existing and continuously operating century-old bamboo-tube water wheel in Hsinchu County. Its main function is to irrigate farmland and also provide important daily water for local residents. This century-old irrigation canal, opened by Jiang Shaozu, involved digging twenty-one tunnels to divert water, irrigating sixty hectares of paddy fields in Nanpu. Later, due to silting, it lost its vitality. The residents of Nanpu Community united and decided to let the land lie fallow for a year to repair the canal. During the renovation, four elders, averaging seventy-five years old, drew upon their past mining experience to help clear the accumulated silt from the tunnels on the mountainside, shovel by shovel, restoring the canal's former water flow and making it an exemplary model of rural regeneration.
