Cheng Yung-Kuo habitually interprets his unique life experiences through pottery, drawing from anthropological and philosophical perspectives. Within seemingly unremarkable pottery shards lie the spirit and wisdom of ancient potters he seeks to pursue. "Each time I develop a new series of works, it feels like a new beginning for me," says Cheng Yung-Kuo. He believes pottery, unlike other art forms, must undergo the trial by fire for its true essence to be revealed, no matter how unique the idea. Although materials and knowledge evolve with time, pottery has always remained in the handcrafted era. Taking pottery wheel throwing as an example, it represents a dialogue between human will and mechanical civilization, as well as the most economical aesthetic. His "Flowing Earth" and "Woman Vase" series are prime examples.
