Neiwan Catholic Church. Originally named St. Mary's Ascension Church, abbreviated as Neiwan Church. Originally named St. Mary's Ascension Church, abbreviated as Neiwan Church. Founded by Father Louis Redman in 1955, with Father Bernard Fan contributing significantly as the founder. At that time, Neiwan Church was located at the residence of Mr. Chen Zhen-yun below Miao Ping, which was the site of the "Nanhe Malaria Prevention Station" during the Japanese occupation. Due to the booming coal mining in Neiwan, a rapid increase in the population, and dangerous occupations that made people place special emphasis on spiritual life, individuals found spiritual solace in new religions. In 1963, master carpenter Mr. Chen Zhen-yun was invited to Neiwan to collaborate with Brother Pan, an architect for the Catholic Church, to construct the church at its current location. The previous site of the church was a lumber mill, so the new church reused the roof beams and eaves from the dismantled old building. The new church was completed and opened in 1965. Father Bernard Fan passed away in 1977. Neiwan Catholic Church was managed by Jiuzantou Catholic Church until 1981.
