Chenxibao is located at an altitude of 1720 meters in Xiuluan Village, Jianshi Township, Hsinchu County, above the Xinguang tribe. It is home to about thirty Atayal indigenous families and is one of the highest settlements in Taiwan. Chenxibao, which exudes a masculine military aura, is actually a transliteration of the Atayal word "Jianxi Bu," meaning "a land where the sun shines brightly from dawn till dusk, with warm days and cold nights, eliminating pests and promoting good crop growth." This tribe is one of a series of settlements established by indigenous people from Nantou who crossed the mountains to reach Xiuluan, and Chenxibao is the oldest among them. The Chenxibao forest is located between Mount Kinaji and Mount Mawang, at an altitude of about 2000 meters. Because it faces the northeast monsoon, the northeast monsoon from the sea carries moisture, nurturing this vast black forest. This black forest contains Yoshino cedars, fragrant cedars, red cypress, and cypress, connecting with Qilan in Yilan to form Taiwan's largest existing cypress forest, covering an area of 50 square kilometers. Entering the sacred tree area, tall red cypresses stand majestically along the path. Due to the long-term humid and undisturbed environment, the surfaces of the ancient sacred trees are covered with moss and ferns. Continuing to an altitude of about 2375 meters, there is a small lake called Dulongtan, located in the primitive and deep forest.
