Due to the difficulty in preservation, very few snake kilns remain in Taiwan today. The Zhunan Snake Kiln was built in 1972. When it was first constructed, the snake kiln was 23 meters long; only 17 meters remain today. However, it is one of the few well-preserved snake kilns in Taiwan and can still be used to fire products today. Therefore, in 2001, it was selected as one of the top 100 historical buildings nationwide by the Council for Cultural Affairs and was also registered as a historical building in Miaoli County, highlighting its preciousness. Although it has a traditional structure, the management philosophy of the Zhunan Snake Kiln is not traditional at all. It integrates innovative ideas into the ancient techniques of pottery making and firing, changing the positioning of the snake kiln from a pure firing kiln to a platform for promoting traditional pottery culture. In addition to dedicating himself to teaching and making traditional pottery, the kiln owner also holds pottery exhibitions from time to time, diligently promoting pottery art. This not only preserves traditional craftsmanship but also achieves remarkable results in contemporary art. With this infusion of new spirit, it is foreseeable that the torch of kiln technology will not be extinguished and can be passed down sustainably.
