Fayun Temple Old Trail. Fayun Temple is located in Wenshui Village, at the border of Gongguan Township and Shitan Township. It is one of the four major Buddhist temples in Taiwan. Originally built in the first year of the Republic of China, it was later rebuilt after being destroyed by an earthquake. The newly built Fayun Temple has a solemn and magnificent appearance, with a style reminiscent of the Tang Dynasty. The Mahavira Hall in Fayun Temple enshrines a white jade Buddha statue, about 9 feet tall and weighing 10,000 catties, donated by Master Hongzong from Singapore. The courtyard outside the hall is planted with cherry and plum blossoms. What's particularly special is a jackfruit tree planted next to the temple, symbolizing wisdom, which bears fruit from September to December each year. Additionally, the straw insulation cages in Wenshui Village are rare handicrafts. The Fayun Temple Old Trail starts from the Chenghuang Temple in Kaiming Village and ends at Fayun Temple in Dahu, with a total length of 1.8 kilometers. It was an important transportation path for early settlers developing Shuiweiping in Dahu. The original old trail was located behind the current Kaiming Elementary School, crossing the saddle of Jintong Mountain (Jianshan), and descending to the Bian'an Bridge of Fayun Temple, reaching Shuiweiping in Dahu Township and the Wenshui area in Shitan Township. Later, due to the construction of Fayun Temple, the route was changed to the current Army Mountain Trail, and the earliest old trail is now difficult to trace.
