Yao Po Shan is located south of the Shei-Pa National Park Headquarters, with a mountain shape resembling a giant eagle poised for flight. In Hakka, "Yao Po" means eagle. Yao Po Shan is situated south of Qing'an on the lower reaches of the Wenshui River, with its highest point at 910 meters, located at the northern end of the Malabang Mountain Range. Due to the westward dip of the rock strata within the mountain range, the mountain's shape, as a result of differential erosion, forms an east-steep and west-gentle hogback monocline structure. It is one of Taiwan's most standard hogback ridge landscapes. The geological stratum where Yao Po Shan is located belongs to the Guan Dao Shan Sandstone. Because the sandstone is calcareous and hard, the rock formations are abrupt, resembling a giant eagle spreading its wings, with a breathtaking presence. In the past, villagers thus called it Yao Po Shan.
