In 1993, Mr. Ma Ying-jeou met Professor Ma Chuan-chen from the Central Police University. Professor Ma is the 21st generation descendant of the Ma family's Fufeng Hall. During their conversation, they discovered that their ancestors came from the same region, and Professor Ma was one generation senior to Ma Ying-jeou. Later, it was understood that the ancestors of Majia Village settled in Taiwan after several migrations from Fufeng County, Shaanxi Province, to Guangdong. President Ma's ancestors, on the other hand, settled in Taiwan after migrating from Fufeng County, Shaanxi Province, to Hunan. Therefore, Majia Village and President Ma share the same roots. After learning about the connection with Majia Village, President Ma has returned to 'Fufeng Hall' in Majia Village, Fengshu Village, Tongxiao Township, Miaoli County, every Lunar New Year's Day (the second day of the Lunar New Year) since 1994 to pay respects to his ancestors. Initially, the ancestral worship trip was not public. Only when President Ma was the Mayor of Taipei did he arrange gatherings with local villagers and clan members during his return for ancestral worship. Although it was paused for five years, starting from 1998 to the present, he has returned to 'Fufeng Hall' here every Lunar New Year's Day (the second day of the Lunar New Year) to pay respects to his ancestors. He also proactively distributes red envelopes to the villagers, sharing the festive atmosphere of the Lunar New Year. He especially greets and chats with the elderly, offering congratulations and catching up.
