Yongzhen Temple. Yongzhen Temple is located in Tianliao Village, Toufen City, just over a kilometer from Zhunan Town. The temple is grand yet unpretentious, with an ancient banyan tree providing shade in front, creating a serene environment. In the third year of the Xianfeng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1853), Xu Yingjian, a Grand Scholar of the Qing Dynasty, whose courtesy name was Fengnan, initiated the construction of Tianliao Yongzhen Temple. After its completion, divine blessings shone brightly, attracting worshippers from Toufen, Sanwan, Nanzhuang, Emei, Beipu, Zaoqiao, Zhunan, as well as Hsinchu and Miaoli. The people's hearts turned towards goodness. The temple's main deity is Mazu (Heavenly Holy Mother). The statue of Mazu in the main hall is solemn and dignified. To the right is enshrined the statue of Guangze Zunwang, tall and imposing. This deity is the guardian spirit of Quanzhou immigrants, indicating that the devotees of Yongzhen Temple are not limited to Hokkien or Hakka origins. To the left is Guanyin Bodhisattva. Beside the Mazu statue is enshrined the spiritual tablet of Fa Miao Xianren, which is a pioneering and rare practice among Mazu temples throughout Taiwan. The side halls enshrine Wenchang Dijun, Fude Zhengshen, and longevity tablets. The interior of the hall is resplendent, with exquisite craftsmanship in all the carvings. Important festivals are held three times a year: The 23rd day of the 2nd lunar month - Mazu's birthday. The 8th day of the 4th lunar month - Mazu's procession. The 15th day of the 7th lunar month - Zhongyuan Festival (Ghost Festival).
