The community is entirely composed of Saisiyat people, with their main economic activities being bamboo forests, vegetables, and homestays. The exterior walls of the houses are decorated with bamboo wraps, totem paintings, and carvings, fully expressing the lifestyle or family character of each household. Many homes also feature wooden pavilions derived from traditional watchtowers in their courtyards, creating a village full of indigenous charm. The original Saisiyat name for Baguali Tribe is 'Lagasan,' meaning a place where camphor trees grow abundantly. During the Japanese colonial era, starting from the Nan River below Danan Bridge and counting southwards, there were a total of eight undulating mountain peaks. Therefore, it was named HAKALIKI in Japanese, meaning 'eight mountains,' which was phonetically translated into Chinese characters as Baguali.
