Villagers utilize this free energy from underground that never ceases year-round, channeling the gas into their homes or workshops for cooking bamboo shoots, drying clothes, cooking meals, bathing, and boiling water. The Simaxian tribe uses it less due to long pipeline routes and fewer households. The Chuhuo tribe, however, finds it convenient to connect pipelines, with over five households using the gas. The Chuhuo tribe gets its name from the fire that has continuously emerged from the ground for years. To promote tribal tourism, the county government and indigenous councilors secured funding from the central government to renovate the Chuhuo Plaza, which was previously represented by simple stone piles, and improve the surrounding environment. The Tai'an Township Chuhuo Tribal Plaza features six fire pits arranged sporadically, with designs incorporating Atayal totems, exuding indigenous charm. The six fire pits in the plaza continuously "emit fire" year-round, making it the first plaza in Miaoli County to feature fire. Every May and June, many tourists seeking to admire fireflies visit "Chuhuo" to explore. Additionally, it will be used in the future for religious ceremonies organized by local churches and for tribal harvest festivals.
