Lao Jia Art Space. Lao Jia, a home for everyone. Lao Jia, a home for everyone. This is a 50-year-old house, passed down from Grandpa Chen to his son and grandson. Chen Peng-wen (the owner), who is pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in Film Directing at Taipei National University of the Arts, returned to his hometown after seven years away and renovated the house, which had been vacant for over 20 years, into "Lao Jia," an establishment open to the public. Initially, his father was eager to demolish the old house's partitions upon hearing of his son's return, but thankfully, he was stopped in time, preserving most of the original layout from his grandfather's era. Subsequently, a group of young individuals with ideas and ideals joined, embarking on a shared dream, new management, and a new experience. They pooled the expertise of friends and family in various fields, including film, education, art, music, and cuisine. Locals and returning visitors gather in this over 50-year-old house, striving towards the goal of "creating a new cultural and artistic base in Miaoli," generating more emotion and joy for the land, sharing that emotion with every friend who visits, and looking forward to everyone's participation. The thoughtful owners designed a small courtyard where children can run around, and a small hut on the lawn provides shelter for guests' pets. Stepping into Lao Jia is like entering your grandfather's era, a cozy, leisurely, and carefree experience, just like returning to your old home in the countryside.
