During the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty, Lukang already had eight "hangjiao" (guilds), which are equivalent to today's chambers of commerce. Rimao Bank, also known as "Rimao Temple," was the largest merchant house among the Quan guilds and was the wealthiest in Lukang from the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty until 1840 (the 20th year of the Daoguang reign). The Lin family of Rimao Bank, as the head of the eight guilds, was known for their philanthropy. In 1777 (the 42nd year of the Qianlong reign), they donated funds to establish Lukang's charitable organization, "Jingyi Garden," which benefited the local community through activities such as collecting discarded paper, establishing charity cemeteries, collecting remains, and repairing bridges. It was the largest charitable organization of its time. Additionally, Rimao Bank participated in local affairs such as the relocation and reconstruction of Lukang Longshan Temple in 1786 (the 51st year of the Qianlong reign) and the new construction of Tianhou Temple (now Xinzhu Temple) in 1787 (the 52nd year of the Qianlong reign). The contributions and deeds of Rimao Bank to Lukang are still passed down and celebrated in Lukang today.
