The Huatan Zhongzhuang Li Family Residence was built by Li Shang-bo, the third son of the family's ancestors, and is a Sanheyuan (three-sided courtyard) building. Most of the wooden framework and paintings in the main hall of the Li Residence have maintained their original appearance, possessing significant artistic value. The main hall is dedicated to deities and ancestral tablets, serving as the family's ancestral worship site. The main hall consists of three rooms, with the main entrance featuring six doors that can be fully opened during ancestral worship for easy access. The main hall adopts a Chuan-dou style timber frame, and the octagonal windows in the side wings symbolize warding off evil and bringing good fortune. The paintings on the lintel above the main hall's entrance and the octagonal windows, depicting scenes such as the "Eight Immortals," "Wei River Recruitment of Sages," and "Shun Plowing Lishan," are severely damaged due to their age. The 921 Earthquake in 1999 caused damage to the Li Residence, with the gatehouse and courtyard walls completely collapsing, and roof tiles dislodged and broken. In 2001, it was further ravaged by a typhoon, leaving only the main hall relatively intact. On April 10, 2002, the main hall of the Li Residence was registered as a historic building, while the side wings were rebuilt using reinforced concrete, mimicking the original architectural style.
