Yiwei Protect Taiwan Peace Memorial Park commemorates the righteousness army that resisted Japan during the Guangxu era of the Qing Dynasty. Inside, there is a memorial hall for the public to pay tribute to the martyrs, and on both sides are ancient cannons and pavilions and flower trellises. The ancient cannons were created in the tenth year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty (1884) and were used by the righteousness army to resist the enemy during the invasion by Governor Liu Mingchuan and the Japanese army. They were originally placed in front of the Bagua Mountain Hall, now the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. In 1972, they were moved to the front of the Bagua Mountain Garden Restaurant, and in 1983, they were moved to the current location. The original name of Yiwei Protect Taiwan Peace Memorial Park was "Bagua Mountain Anti-Japanese Martyrs Memorial Park". After renovation and redesign, it was officially renamed "Yiwei Protect Taiwan Peace Memorial Park" in February 2008. The renovated park is fresh and beautiful, with modern-style ramps and spacious wooden platforms. From here, you can overlook the Dadu River and recall the heroic spirit and tragic courage of the volunteers during the anti-Japanese war. Today, the smell of gunpowder is gone, replaced by lush green trees and the chirping of birds and insects, making it a great place for many locals to relax and exercise.
