At that time, unusual events occurred in the area, with some people losing their minds and others falling ill without any discernible cause. The populace was not only terrified but also helpless, so they prayed to the Royal Lords for blessings and peace. The next day, a fisherman passed by the temple and saw flames engulfing it. Upon entering to investigate, a Royal Lord suddenly descended into a sedan chair and performed rituals to pacify the area. From then on, the region returned to peace. The devotees burned incense and paid homage, and surprisingly, the character 'Xue' appeared floating on the incense burner. Since then, the local people have respectfully called this statue 'Lord Xue'. Lugang Yong'an Temple is an ancient temple closely related to the development history of Lugang. In terms of historical development, the main deity enshrined in this temple, Lord Xue, was invited and established as an altar for protection by the naval officer Qiu in the 37th year of Kangxi's reign, after the Lugang naval post was established in the 23rd year of Kangxi's reign, making it historically significant. The secondary deity enshrined, Lord Zeng, is based on a real person whose military achievements are clearly recorded in the county gazetteer. Lord Zeng is Zeng Shaolong, a naval commander who died in the Chen Zhouquan rebellion in the 60th year of Qianlong's reign. He was later posthumously honored, granted hereditary sacrifices, and given the posthumous title of a fourth-rank official, and was enshrined in the Changzhong Ancestral Shrine. The current statue in the temple depicts him in the attire of a fourth-rank official. It is also said that although Lord Zeng was a military scholar, he was skilled in poetry and calligraphy. He privately ran a school to educate the villagers and strongly recommended students for imperial examinations, thus initiating the literary atmosphere in Lugang and earning the people's favor.
