Lukang River. The Lukang River Drainage is located south of Lukang urban area. During the Qing Dynasty, merchant ships could sail into it, serving as a transportation channel for early trade with China. This contributed to Lukang's reputation as 'First Tainan, Second Lukang, Third Monga,' and also bears witness to the bustling scene of a thousand sails entering the harbor in Lukang at that time. However, times have changed, and the current Lukang River Drainage has lost its original function, becoming a drainage ditch that collects rainwater and domestic sewage from the urban area. The county government, through the 'Lukang River Revival Project,' connects the old street and old town area, integrating it with the lives of local residents to increase recreational space for locals and visitors. It aims to restore the reputation of the 'Mother River' of the past, revive the cultural landscape, and bring back the former glory of the Lukang River. The Lukang River waterfront corridor is about 1.5 kilometers long. The riverside landscape features diverse spaces such as plazas, green belts, waterside walkways, and an underwater stage. The underwater stage and the Sail Plaza provide spaces for cultural and artistic performances. At the Kaiyuan Plaza and Sail Plaza at both ends of the river section, two public art installations, 'Fu Lu Beast' and 'Deer Sailing,' are respectively set up. Currently, the Kaiyuan Plaza also features a water dance performance every evening from 6 PM to 9 PM. The transformation of the Lukang River provides a recreational and cultural space for tourists and local residents, and also enhances the surrounding environment.
