During the Japanese colonial period, this temple was demolished by the Japanese, and the 'Monument to the Imperial Remains of Prince Kitashirakawa' was erected on the original site to commemorate Prince Kitashirakawa Yoshihisa, the general who led the army to Taiwan in 1895 and camped in Citong Alley.
