Longyin Temple and the suspension bridges have become landmarks that visitors must stop at on their way to Alishan, as well as important scenic spots and religious sites along the route. The temple primarily enshrines Master Li Xiuyuan, commonly known as Chan Master Jigong. He is also called the Five Lords Bodhisattva for his five reincarnations to save the world. Chan Master Jigong's enlightenment day is the third day of the tenth lunar month, which is celebrated as his birthday. A grand fire-walking ceremony is held almost every year on this day. Its main purpose is to help sentient beings eliminate disasters, ward off misfortune, and expel demons and evil spirits. Due to the divine power amplified by walking through the fire, it often attracts many temples and a large number of believers from across the country to participate in the ceremony.
