It has a catchment area of 3.66 square kilometers, a dam crest length of 1535 meters, and a width of 9 meters, with an annual water supply of 52 million tons. The reservoir was constructed in April 1980 and began impounding water in June 1987. Its water source is drawn from the Bazhang River, introduced into the reservoir via a sedimentation tank. The intake is located approximately 50 meters downstream from the Wufeng Bridge on Provincial Highway 3, where a weir diverts water through a 1.5-kilometer conduit to Renyi Tan Reservoir. It is operated in conjunction with Lantan Reservoir to supply domestic water to the 400,000 to 500,000 residents of the greater Chiayi area. Renyi Tan Reservoir supplies drinking water to the entire Chiayi County and City. The surrounding lake and mountain scenery is pleasant and full of greenery. There is also a well-planned embankment walkway along the reservoir, often frequented by couples. In the early morning and evening, many visitors can be seen walking and exercising, flying kites, jogging, and walking their dogs. The scenic Renyi Tan, located in Fanlu Township, with its naturally irregular shape, adds to its aesthetic appeal and is the best recreational destination for the people of the Chiayi area on holidays.
