Sheng En Temple in Taibao City, Chiayi County enshrines Guanyin Bodhisattva from Putuo Mountain, Zhejiang Province. Legend has it that the Sheng En Temple Management Committee, following the instructions of the Three Bodhisattvas, made three trips to Putuo Mountain between 1989 and 1991 to welcome the Bodhisattva to reside and protect the temple. The devotees of Sheng En Temple are found all over the world. Even Mr. Mori Ichizo from Japan and Dr. Ke Wen-hsiung from Hawaii make it a point to visit Sheng En Temple for worship every time they come to Taiwan. In 1987, to propagate Buddhist teachings, Sheng En Temple added the Boruomi Lecture Hall to the right side of the temple. It is said that the original concepts for everything within, from the plants and trees to the bricks and tiles, including the wall decorations and floor patterns, were all inspired by the Bodhisattva's instructions. Starting in 1995, the Nine-Ranked Lotus Gate and the Sutra Repository of the Boruomi Lecture Hall were successively renovated. The Boruomi Lecture Hall was completed in June of the same year, and the Sutra Repository was officially inaugurated in 2000. Sheng En Temple boasts a beautiful and solemn environment, featuring an Eight Trigrams Gate, a Lotus Pond, a Sun and Moon Pavilion, a Boruomi Lecture Hall, a Yuantong Building, and North and South Pole Gates, among other attractions. Every corner is filled with ingenuity and creativity, differing significantly from the architectural style of ordinary temples. Currently, on the first and fifteenth day of each lunar month, the Sheng En Temple Good Affinity Society lectures on Buddhist scriptures for devotees. Annually on the 19th day of the ninth lunar month, a ritual for national protection and peace, the Li Dou Dharma Assembly, and a ceremony for the departed are held.
