The Ruitai Ancient Trail is located in Ruili Village, Meishan Township, Chiayi County, leading to Taihe Village. It was formerly known as the "Youhalin Trail" and is a famous route connecting Ruili and Taihe. The entire trail is 5.2 kilometers long and takes about 3 hours to hike one way. The starting point of the Ruitai Ancient Trail is next to the Dingfeng Tea Plantation in Lujiacai Forest. Between Moyou Pit and Huitouling, it splits into two sections, forming a loop trail. The section from Moyou Pit, Hero Slope, and Devil's Cave to Huitouling is the ancient trail built in the 1870s. The trail is steeper with over 300 stone steps uphill. Currently, the forest type is mostly bamboo, with a relatively monotonous ecosystem. The section from Moyou Pit, Wangtian Cliff to Huitouling was rebuilt in 1931. The trail is gentler, with dense tree shade, making it a relaxing and pleasant walk. The forest types are more varied, and the ecosystem is richer, with sightings of Taiwan hwamei, Taiwan yuhina, Chinese bulbul, light-vented bulbul, coral-billed scimitar-babbler, and Japanese bush warbler. It is considered the essence of ecological observation on the Ruitai Ancient Trail. One of the trail's endpoints is "Hutongdi" in Taihe Village. In addition to Moso bamboo forests and primeval forests, the entire route changes with the seasons, offering plum blossoms, peaches, plums, and cherry blossoms. There are also over 100 species of ferns, making the flora and fauna ecosystem extremely rich. Scenic spots along the trail include Forget Worry Forest, Giant Taiwan Camphor Tree, Seven-Step Echo Valley, Hero Slope, Huitouling, and Wangtian Cliff.
