Baima Pavilion. Baima Pavilion is located on the summit of Dakeng Mountain on the east side of Zengwen Reservoir in Dapu Township, Chiayi County, at an altitude of about 750 meters. It is a route from Chiayi County to Tainan City, starting from kilometer 307 of Provincial Highway 3. In the late Qing Dynasty, a constable named Ye led his troops to suppress bandits in the Dakeng Mountain area and unfortunately died in the line of duty. The white horse he rode then wandered in the mountains. Every day at dawn, the white horse would whinny mournfully on the mountaintop, faintly audible to the villagers below. Later, in remembrance of the horse's spiritual nature and loyalty, a pavilion named Baima Pavilion was built on the summit for villagers and tourists to climb and enjoy the view. Baima Pavilion is the best viewing spot for an aerial view of Dapu, but the road is winding and covered with gravel. Some paths have an incline exceeding 45 degrees, and the sliding gravel makes the journey perilous. Due to its elevated position, Baima Pavilion offers an excellent panoramic view, not only of the entire Zengwen Reservoir and Dapu Village but also of the distant peaks of Datong Mountain. At sunrise, golden light dances and sparkles brilliantly. At sunset, rosy clouds reflect on the lake, and mist gently embraces the green mountains, creating a truly intoxicating scene. Baima Pavilion is a hiking trail suitable for all ages. You can ascend from the water treatment plant in Dapu Village along the industrial road. The round trip to the summit takes about 2 hours. Standing at Baima Pavilion, you can learn the story of the loyal white horse on the wall and enjoy the panoramic view of Zengwen Reservoir. It is a very worthwhile destination.
