With its rich forms, magnificent colors, and an atmosphere of auspicious joy, Koji ware is widely used in architectural and temple decorations. The Chiayi region is the birthplace of Koji ware in Taiwan, and the Japanese once called it "Chiayi Ware." Mr. Hsiao Wu-Lung was born in Chiayi City in 1948. Inspired by the micro-carving master Lou Yung-Yu, he became his apprentice in 1980 to learn this nearly lost ancient art. In 1993, he established the Hsiao Wu-Lung Koji Ware Studio. Mr. Hsiao Wu-Lung is also one of the few micro-carving experts in Taiwan. His works have won an honorable mention in the craft category of the 47th Provincial Fine Arts Exhibition and a third prize in the folk art carving category of the 4th National Folk Arts Exhibition. Today, his works are recognized and loved by experts both domestically and internationally.
