The most distinctive feature of Kaiyuan Temple is its statue of Lord Koxinga, claimed to be the world's tallest, standing at 172 feet, equivalent to a 7-story building. This colossal statue is visible from afar as one drives into Xikou Township, and has become a landmark of the area. Kaiyuan Temple was completed in December 1995 and is open for free visits. The interior of the Koxinga statue houses the Koxinga Cultural Relics Museum, displaying artifacts and historical materials related to Koxinga's life, his sacrifices for the nation, calligraphy, weapons, imperial edicts from the Qing government, the Dutch surrender document, and more, all of considerable historical value. Floors five to nine of the Koxinga Cultural Relics Museum are open to visitors free of charge. The interior is planned as follows: the first floor features a pedestal for the 'Kai Tai Sheng Wang' statue and a conference hall; the second floor displays models of Kaiyuan Temple, the ancestral well and calendar, the ancestral home of the Zheng family in Zhangzhou, Koxinga's birthplace in Japan, and the Dutch surrender map; the third floor showcases artifacts from Koxinga's military career; the fourth floor displays Koxinga's naval fleet; the fifth floor is the Cultural Relics Museum; the sixth floor is the Rural Culture Museum; floors seven, eight, and nine are observation decks. The exterior of the first floor houses four cannons from Koxinga's era and other related artifacts, making it one of Taiwan's tourist destinations. Kaiyuan Temple is accessible from the Dalin Interchange of the freeway.
